How secure are attachments?

Will anyone having the link to an attachment be able to access it? I just tried attaching a file, and then accessing its URL from an incognito window, and seems it’s allowed. I would have liked secure attachments ( or, maybe, attachments should get uploaded to dropbox, which would be secure.)

Hi @Sanjay_Patel,

This section in our help center should help: http://help.dynalist.io/privacy/#who-can-see-the-files-i-uploaded

Let me know if that doesn’t answer your question!

Thanks for the quick reply. The help material sounds good, but I again checked that my uploaded files, e.g. https://dynalist.io/u/Fw-veyB_lSd43Yj-8irkHxz_/FTRE-2016-hall-ticket.pdf and https://dynalist.io/u/zvLClNFja37Ep0ogn06nFbTm/naturalprogrammer-icon.png seem to be accessible anonymously (checked from a new browser, as well from incognito chrome window) even if the “Allow others access via link” is unchecked (see the attachment).

Could you please try those links, and look at why security isn’t working for me?

Secondly, is there a way we can see list of attachments and delete those to free up space?

There’s a note in the help material saying:

“Note: this setting only applies to future uploads; existing uploads will not be affected.”

The two files you posted - were they uploaded before you changed this setting?

Currently this isn’t possible, but it is part of a suggestion in which you can chime in here:

Nope. To reconfirm, I rechecked that my setting “Allow access access via link” is unchecked, and then just uploaded this one: https://dynalist.io/u/o-cX55iH5gGfXx2lr5zLrTXU/dynalist-issue-continues.jpg . Same issue.

BTW, the DynaList seem to be really great! I’m a project manager and blogger, and after researching a lot of of things like JIRA, Asana, I’ve zeroed on this for my real agile projects, as well as my personal tasks. With some good marketing, probably it’s going to be a game changer, particularly with a good roadmap of features. Workflowy has become stagnant and purist, which doesn’t seem to work in practical world.

I can only access this file, out of the three links that you’ve provided.

I strongly agree with you here. The ability to create content on the fly and seamlessly is a huge plus for me, and implementing features such as file management (see: this thread) and reminders would be great.

Good, seems to be working now. Thank you.

Looks like some aggressive marketing, probably backed by strong funding, can make it a #1 product.

As @JP1 confirmed, I can’t access this file either  (Thanks @JP1!)

That’s good to hear!!

That’s our idea too! The rest of the work is to figure out “good marketing”. We’ve tried and learned but it’s pretty hard for such a general-purpose tool. We find it a little hard to explain in a sentence ourselves, so it’s hard to pitch to other people. It’s more like one of those “try it and you’ll see” products.

True, I myself have some experience with some startups, and know how hard it’s to introduce to the market a new concept. Very difficult without external support like VC, getting acquired by a big fish, JVZoo affiliate marketing etc., I guess.
