Personally I love the multiple documents as opposed to one giant one.
Particularly at the top level of my Workflowy list were general âhouse keepingâ nodes anyways for Work or Home, and various house keeping nodes under those before getting into the actual lists I was keeping. Having them separate documents makes it clean and accessible.
More importantly it doesnât clutter when I no longer need a document. I have a couple of âarchiveâ folders that I use for projects Iâve long since completed or otherwise no longer need to reference. Theyâre out of the way and for instance if I just search a document those results donât show up.
Something that is important to keep in mind when using Any tool, is you need to use it as itâs designed. While itâs nice to say âyou should support this feature that I like from product Xâ, if a product tries to do everything it ends up becoming a mess of features which become unwieldy. Workflowy made certain design decisions, Dynalist others. You wouldnât use Workflowy like you would use Evernote, just as you wouldnât use Dynalist as you would Workflowy or Fargo.io. At some point you need to stop making a tool like the last one you used, and accept it for what it is and determine how you can best adapt your flow to the design decisions that app made instead. And in some cases, maybe it just doesnât suit your needs. Itâs unfortunately but sometimes a tool canât be everything for everyone.
