URLs recently started pasting as full markdown with the url cloned in the title area too

It used to just paste
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/blah

Now it pastes
[https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/blah](https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/blah)

It’s super annoying when you’re typing markdown and paste the url part just to end up with
[That one email]([https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/blah](https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/blah))

True. It is really annoying. I have to delete the first URL manually every time.

Yup. I also have noticed this same issue. Thanks!

Same here.

Same here. Could you please fix this, Dynalist?

In the meantime I’ll use Command ⌘ + Shift ⇧ + V to paste all my URL’s. Problem solved.

Thanks for the tip of pasting without formatting. Ctrl-Shift-V works perfectly in Windows.

Yes this is really frustrating - especially for raw URLs. Any update on when it’ll be fixed?

Until it’s fixed - learn to use the hotkey on your computer for “unformatted paste”. It’s useful to know anyway. Ever since this bug appeared I’ve gotten more used to doing it, it’s useful in Google Docs too.

I’d also like to note that I find this bug super annoying and hope it gets fixed soon. The workaround the George3 mentioned does work, but it’s really hard to retrain yourself to do a standard operation like pasting differently than you’ve been doing it for 15 years just for one app.

I agree with all the other commenters, it’s very annoying. Multiple times everyday I find myself doing cmd+v, realizing it pasted in markdown so hitting cmd+z, then pasting unformatted with cmd+shift+v…

Happens to me too.

Another version of this bug was closed by a mod because they said the issue only happens if we copy a ‘clickable’ link – if we copied a clean link it would paste a clean link.

For me, this happens when I copy links from the Chrome address bar, which I expect to be clean (maybe Chrome makes them unclean – but I think Dynalist should treat them as clean regardless).

It might help this bug get fixed if people share the places where they’re copying links from which cause them to see markdown links. Is it mostly with Chrome that other people are having issues too?

This behavior is extremely annoying, and I came to the forum today to report it if no else had. Steps to repro (it’s a “clean” URL, @Erica)

  1. Microsoft Edge 77.0.223.0, macOS 10.14.6
  2. Cmd-L to jump to address bar, Cmd-C to copy URL
  3. Paste into Dynalist

Product needlessly creates a formatted MD URL instead of a clean one:

Please fix this so that only the URL gets pasted, which is what I’m pretty sure it did before. URLs a thing I’m putting into DL all day long.

Wait…

…is this actually a new bug feature in Chrome? Did dynalist not even change anything? https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/2848304?hl=en

Maybe we’re blaming the wrong company haha

We didn’t change anything, it looks like Chrome (and maybe other browsers) want the URLs to be pasted with a title now :frowning:

I’ve been personally using Ctrl+Shift+V as well.

@Erica would it be possible to check if the text and URL are the same when pasting the hyperlink, and if so only paste the URL in plaintext?

I got tired of using the plain paste workaround, so fixed the problem with the indispensable Keyboard Maestro. I hope those of you on macOS will find this useful.

This macro monitors clipboard for when there’s only a URL in it, and then converts the clipboard from HTML to plain text. I have it in a group that’s active in browsers only. It won’t let me attach it to this post, so in my Dropbox public folder instead.

Update: fixed on our end, going out in a few days on web app, a little later for other platforms.

I can confirm this is fixed for Chrome on Mac and Windows!
