Dark themes are almost essential for people like me with large professional monitors; otherwise blinding, especially in the evening.
However, the dark theme is quite crude pitch black. Nice dark themes use more dark grey than crazy contrasty black and white.
I actually propose a paper-like light grey for the page (black text) and everything outside the page is off-black or dark grey.
