How do you delete files?

I want to delete some files on my left hand list – I am on a Mac and can’t figure it out. Answers appreciated

On my mac it’s a 2-finger tap. I forget what default it came with with.

A better idea is to never delete any file. Instead, create a folder, name it Recycle Bin, and drag things there.
