Changing date directly on search results page

Steps to reproduce

When I have search results, for example: “until:today”, sometimes when I click on the date/calendar icon, it pops up calendar directly on the search results page so that I can change the date directly on the search results page. I like this and it is very practical.

But sometimes, it leads me to the item, like I had clicked on it, and not on the date/calendar icon, and then I have to click on blank area first and then again on date/calendar icon to change the date, and then get back to search results. I don`t like this as it is much more complicated.

Expected result

Described above in the first example.
I don`t know why it is not always as described in the first example. Can you make it so that it is always like this?

Actual result

Described above in the second example.
