Steps to reproduce

  1. Browse to https://dynalist.io/demo.
  2. In the Welcome to Dynalist file, add this link: https://dynalist.io/demo/mLU8S-wRRjddVd0m411_2P3I#q=asdf.
  3. Press the ESCAPE key so the URL is clickable.
  4. Click on the link.

Expected result

Clicking on the link shows an empty search result.

Actual result

Clicking on the link shows an empty search result.

However, a blank line is added to the file. The next time the link is clicked, another blank line is added.

Environment

OS: Win10
Browser: Chrome
Dynalist version: Demo version

Iā€™m afraid this is not a bug but a feature.

Clicking on the large space at the bottom will focus on the last item on screen, and if thereā€™s no item on scree, an item will be created.

Yes, clicking on the large space will create a new item. However, I didnā€™t click in the large space.

The new item is created without clicking on the the large space. It gets automatically created when I click on the search link.

Basically, the outline is being changed despite not making any intentional edits.

The steps above are a bit contrived to better illustrate the core issue.

A more real-life example (and one that affects me) would be:

  1. Browse to https://dynalist.io/demo.
  2. In the Welcome to Dynalist file, add this link: https://dynalist.io/demo/mLU8S-wRRjddVd0m411_2P3I#q=perception
  3. Press the ESCAPE key so the URL is clickable.
  4. Click on the link.
  5. You should be searching for perception.
  6. Change the outline to hide checked items.
  7. Check off all items in the list.
  8. Navigate back to the Welcome to Dynalist file.
  9. Click on the previously added search link.

After I check off all the perception items, there will be no items on the screen. If I click on the search link, Dynalist will add a new blank line.

Each time I click on the search link, another new blank line is appended to the bottom of the checklist.

I completed the checklist, but new blank lines are being added to it each time I click on the search link.

I see, I was able to repro in demo. Not in my own Dynalist though, curiously.

We have tracked this bug on our todo list, and will fix it as soon as we can! Thanks again for letting us know. Iā€™ll update here when itā€™s fixed :slight_smile:

The other bug (link: Extra new line when navigating between 2 bookmarks) seems to be caused by the same underlying bug. I know it might have shown slightly different symptoms over there, but for tracking purpose Iā€™ll mark that one as a duplicate and track this post instead.

@rayli: should be fixed in the web app now, the fix should come to the desktop app soon!

Verified in the demo app. Iā€™ll keep an eye for the original bug in my personal documents over the next day or so.
