Symbols and Dingbats

Freely admit I stole this lock stock and barrel from the Workflowy set of useful reference stuff but if anyone wants, here are a whole host of symbols etc to tuck into a reference corner for cutting and pasting as needed.

Woah, this is awesome!

that’s why http://emojipedia.org/symbols/ exist

  • there may be something better i think this is it last i stopped looking

please send me all and anything else related to outliners that could be useful – ~ ** { Making Life Better } ** ~

Ah, that’s useful as well, and probably looks great on mobile. Thanks!

Heads-up: not all programs deal well with the storage and/or display of Unicode files. Sometimes all you end up with is a little [] square symbol.

You can see Frank’s complete Unicode symbols list over here. Copy what you need, and if needed, export, open in your favorite program (Bonsai, Notepad, UltraEdit, whatever) and check which symbols are shown as what.

Would suck to use some of these to power your organizing logic while later on they may not be visible elsewhere

Tofu warning!

Isn’t that dependent on which symbols are available on your local system? Maybe there’s some way to download those characters and fix those tofu characters.

It’s not just your system; it’s how the software you use treats Unicode as well. Some txt editors will mangle a Unicode text file.

Bonsai, officially no longer produced but you can still download it and register it, doesn’t do Unicode, for example:

UltraEdit, a great text editor, does Unicode but even then you don’t get everything:

So it really depends where you’re going to use your exported outline.

Not sure if this will help, but noticed Todoist and several sites use this markdown for emoji: http://www.webpagefx.com/tools/emoji-cheat-sheet/ Might also help with this issue Emoji / Alt Key Code predictions/search
